Visiting Scholar Information

The Computer Forum provides the opportunity to send visitors to study and engage in research under the direction of a Stanford faculty member. Acceptance into the program is contingent upon the compatibility of the visitor's research with that of a faculty member, and upon the availability of office space.

Member companies may send their scientists or engineers for an extended stay at Stanford to collaborate with a member of the Computer Science Department, Computer Systems Laboratory, and Information Systems Laboratory faculty. The length of stay ranges anywhere from six months to three years. The fee is $60,000 per year. Such opportunities are available by mutual agreement between the Forum member company and a Stanford faculty member. Membership in the Computer Forum is required to participate.

Upon arrival at Stanford a Visiting Scholar will receive:

  • A shared office in the Gates Computer Science Building
  • Stanford University course auditing privileges
  • Access to the Stanford University library system and other campus facilities
  • Access to the Stanford University network
  • A computer account
