Who we are:
Tumor evolution proceeds at a rapid pace. Drug development does not. In order for cancer therapy to achieve a durable response over years rather than months, it must “evolve” as quickly as the tumor does. In the Ji Research Group we develop software solutions that enable data-driven, clinical, decisionmaking by providing oncologists and specialized tumor-boards with patient-specific genomic information. Executing this
mission will rely on a long-term synergy between various evolving perspectives on tumor populations and on an
interdisciplinary effort to sharpen these perspectives. We are seeking two student interns to lead research projects in exciting, new directions.

Position 1 description:
We are seeking a machine learning (ML) engineer to develop a classifier which will distinguish tumor from normal H&E images at an unprecedented resolution of single cells. This person will be part of a cross-functional effort to build a ML platform that learns through user interaction to continuously improve its performance. Successful candidate will play a critical role in defining and executing the software’s development strategy. Position initially offered as internship with possible extension upon satisfactory progress.

Candidates should have experience designing, implementing and debugging ML techniques, building high-leverage data infrastructure according to established software architecture principles, and be versant in working with imaging data.

An ideal candidate should be an expert in artificial neural networks, in particular LSTM networks and semi-supervised learning concepts. Expertise in MATLAB and MagicDraw are a plus. Candidates should demonstrate a strong ability to work cross-functionally and to communicate ideas and results.

Position 1 requirements:
• Strong background developing ML methods and experience in implementing and extending ML algorithms independently
• Experience with artificial neural networks, in particular LSTMs
• BS in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience required
• Strong skills in software architecture design and substantial expertise in MATLAB and Java
• Strong analytical and quantitative skills
• Experience with imaging data pre-processing is preferred but not required
• Experience with TensorFlow is a plus

Position 2 description:
We are seeking a scientist/engineer to develop new software which will resolve cancer clonal structure at unprecedented resolution. This person will be part of a team effort to build the next generation sequencing and bioinformatics platform that speedily and accurately characterize cancer genomes. The team includes cancer biologists, statisticians, technicians, and clinicians with extensive experience in their fields. Successful
candidate will play a critical role in defining and executing software development strategies for this new tool. Position initially offered as internship with possible extension upon satisfactory progress. The internship also provides opportunity for expanding out to bioinformatics tools development for cancer biomarker discovery and single cell genomics data.

Position 2 requirement:
• BS in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience required
• Solid experience with designing, implementing, and debugging Amazon web service based tools.
• Experience with designing and implementing the interface of Amazon web service based tools.
• Familiar with Hadoop, Spark, and TensorFlow or other big data tools on AWS is a plus.
• Familiar with mobile device front-end implementation is preferred.
• Analytical and quantitative training in statistics and machine learning is preferred.
