Position Description

The Ph.D. Intern, Supply Chain Strategy and Analytics will focus on developing innovative solutions to some of the standard supply chain problems we face today as an e-commerce company such as allocation planning, SKU affinity modeling, network optimization and transportation optimization. This position leverages advanced data modeling, data mining, analytics and optimization techniques to help improve bottom line and customer SLA's. On a daily basis, this position will conduct thorough analysis to identify root cause of a business problem and develop mathematical models to provide recommendations on alternative ways of conducting business. The role will work cross functionally with multiple stakeholders at Walmart Global eCommerce to understand and analyze the business problem, develop innovative solutions and gain alignment on the recommendations provided. The position is part of a growing team at Walmart eCommerce headquarters in San Bruno, CA, that combines strong analytical and optimization background with business domain knowledge and works closely with Walmart eCommerce leadership.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be currently pursuing Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering / Operations Research
Demonstrated analytical and quantitative skills with the ability to understand data and build innovative supply chain models
Experience with statistical analysis, multi-variant testing strategies and concepts, regression modeling and forecasting, time series analysis, data mining, financial analysis, economic order quantity modeling, optimization modeling and game theory (statistical modeling tools like SAS, R) Understanding of optimization concepts with hands on modeling experience in building prototype optimization/statistical models for improving business operations (e.g., SAS, R)
Expert in MS-Excel, MS-Access, VBA, Python, and SQL

Additional Preferred Qualifications

Understanding of retail and e-commerce industry Experience with network modeling tools (e.g. Llamasoft, CAPS, IBM Logic Net Plus)
Experience in custom optimization tools such as CPLEX or Gurobi
