"Large-Scale Social Media Mining in Facebook"
10:45am - 11:15am

Abstract:

We are living in a revolutionary age, witnessing the next-generation social media emerged in astounding volume and rich formats. As part of this revolution, Facebook has grown into the most popular social networking sites in the world today with over 800 million active users. The rapidly grown, efficiently delivered, massively contributed and incrementally socialized media content has fundamentally reshaped the ways for human to learn about this world, express their thoughts and interact with one another. This social breakthrough has led to uncharted opportunities for data-mining millions of users to gain insights about user identities, social behavior and influence patterns. To aid audience tapping into this emerging social world, this talk presents statistics and key insights for the human behaviors on Facebook. It also investigates several data mining, analysis and prediction techniques in Facebook to harvest the crowd intelligence supported by real-world case studies on the "big" social media data including status update, images, videos and friendship.
