2010 Poster Sessions : Multi-Commodity Flow Models for Dynamic Energy Management

Abstract:
We consider the problem of simultaneously managing multiple energy types over a given network. Prior work has resulted in models that are non-convex in all but the simplest cases. We reformulate the energy management problem as a multi-commodity flow, thereby maintaining convexity under a wide range of network conditions. The resulting model can then be solved globally and efficiently.

Matt Kraning is a Ph.D. candidate in the Electrical Engineering Department at Stanford University, advised by Professor Stephen Boyd. His research interests include optimization modeling and information theory.
