2010 Poster Sessions : Wrangler: An Interactive System for Data Transformation and Integration

Student Name : Sean Kandel
Advisor : Jeffrey M. Heer
Research Areas: Computer Systems, Graphics/HCI
Abstract:
While information visualization and analysis tools have significantly enhanced analysts’ ability to make sense of complex data, data curation remains a time consuming prerequisite to most analysis tasks. To address this bottleneck, we present Wrangler, an interactive system for creating and sharing data transformations - functions that reformat, clean or integrate data sets. Wrangler provides type-specific visualizations enabling transformation authoring and composition through direct manipulation of visual elements.
