The mission of the Waymo Research team is to develop machine learning solutions addressing open problems in autonomous driving, towards the goal of safely operating Waymo vehicles in dozens of cities and under all driving conditions. As part of our work, we also initiate and foster collaborations with other research teams in Alphabet. Research areas that we are currently focusing on include perception, behavior prediction and reinforcement learning.

In this internship, you’ll:

Conduct cutting edge research and develop machine learning algorithms to solve challenging real-world problems in the areas of perception, mapping, and sensor simulation.

Experiment and evaluate the algorithms on large-scale datasets

Get an opportunity to publish findings in academic conferences and journals

At a minimum we’d like you to have:

Enrolled in a Masters or PhD program in Computer Science, Robotics, similar technical field of study Experience in at least one of: computer vision, machine learning, or robotics

Strong coding experience in Python and/or C++

Hands-on experience with deep neural networks and familiarity with at least one type of machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow

Strong publication record with first-authored paper(s) in top-tier conferences/journals in the field of machine learning, computer vision or robotics

It’s preferred if you have:

Enrolled in a PhD program

Large-scale data processing and analytical skills

Experience in working with Lidar data

Experience in 3D computer vision, 3D deep learning, and Neural Rendering

Experience in large language/vision-language foundation models

The expected base salary for this full-time position is listed below. The salary will be prorated based on the number of weeks you are employed as an intern. Interns are also eligible to participate in the Company’s generous benefits programs, subject to eligibility requirements.

Masters Pay

$105,000—$105,000 USD

PhD Pay

$125,000—$125,000 USD
