Job Description:
The Hoover Institution’s Shared Services department is seeking enthusiastic and motivated undergraduate or graduate students to join our dynamic team for the summer.

 

The Shared Services department serves as the hub of business operations at the Hoover Institution, encompassing multiple teams including Human Resources, Events & Planning, Facilities, Finance, and IT Services. The department has recently adopted Scrum methodology to tackle project work and process improvement in an incremental, iterative way.

 

As an Agile Programmer Analyst, you will become an integral part of a cross-functional scrum team, leveraging your technical expertise to develop solutions with tools like Google Sheets and Smartsheets. This is an excellent opportunity for students who want to gain practical experience working in a collaborative, agile environment while contributing to impactful projects. Scrum training will be provided to ensure your success in this role.

 

Core Duties:

Collaborate with a cross-functional scrum team to identify areas for improvement. Design and develop sustainable solutions to streamline processes and promote consistency across departments.

Diagram current business process flows by providing clear visual representations to facilitate communication and understanding among stakeholders and team members.

Evaluate opportunities where technology can be employed to automate processes, enhance information flow, and improve communication. Offer technical guidance to the team regarding suitable tools and approaches for each project.

Develop, test, and implement low-code/no-code solutions using tools such as Google Sheets, Power Automate, and Smartsheets.

Write and optimize complex formulas, create interactive dashboards, and automate workflows to improve efficiency and data accuracy.

Understand data collection processes, assist with data cleaning, reconciliation, transfer, entry.

Actively participate in all agile events, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

Exceptional communication, writing, and customer service skills with the ability to effectively convey complex information to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Understanding of Google Workspace Apps, Microsoft 365 and similar platforms.

Capability to select the most suitable technology tool or approach for a given project, considering scope, timeline, and available resources.

Adaptability and willingness to learn new tools, technologies, and methodologies.

Aptitude for understanding and analyzing complex business processes and identifying areas for improvement.

Ability to maintain a positive attitude and contribute constructively to a collaborative work environment.

 

 

The expected pay range for this position is $17.25 to $21.25 per hour for undergraduates and $21.26 to $26.15 per hour for graduates. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
