Visiting Scholars Information

The Computer Forum provides the opportunity to send visitors to study and engage in research under the direction of a Stanford faculty member. Acceptance into the program is contingent upon the compatibility of the visitor's research with that of a faculty member, and upon the availability of office space.

Research Policy Handbook

Member companies may send their scientists or engineers for an extended stay at Stanford to collaborate with a member of the Computer Science and Electrical Engineering Department, Computer Systems Laboratory, and Information Systems Laboratory faculty. The length of stay ranges anywhere from six months to three years. The fee is $85,000 per year. Such opportunities are available by mutual agreement between the Forum member company and a Stanford faculty member. Membership in the Computer Forum is required to participate.

Upon arrival at Stanford a Visiting Scholar will receive:

  • A shared office in the Gates Computer Science or Electrical Engineering Building
  • Stanford University course auditing privileges (ON HOLD DUE TO COVID PROTOCOLS)
  • Access to the Stanford University library system and other campus facilities
  • Access to the Stanford University network
  • A computer account and a stanford.edu email address to access Stanford's online services and computing resources.
